Go to second base
Saturday, September 20th, 2008
The winding down of the baseball season has got me in a bit of a tizzy, mainly because the Cubs are headed to the playoffs and, well, who knows what else? It could be a magical October—that’s all I’ll say (for fear of provoking a certain billy goat).
But here’s another great way of celebrating the imminent arrival of the Fall Classic, even if you’re not a baseball fan:
“Save 2nd Base” is a campaign supporting the Kelly Rooney Foundation. Rooney was a 43-year-old mother of five who fought breast cancer for four years before dying in 2006. The foundation focuses on breast cancer prevention in young women and the challenges they face when diagnosed.
Rooney coined the phrase “Save 2nd Base,” and her sister and a friend ran with it to create the t-shirt above. Their online catalog features a variety of t-shirts for guys, gals and dogs; bags; hats; and other merchandise. Half of the proceeds go to the foundation. Check it out!
