The November issue of Shape includes a piece on “the best and worst menu picks.” Pick up the magazine for the explanations, but here are its conclusions:
Mexican
Skip: Chicken burrito
Pick: Chicken fajita
Better: Chicken soft taco
Beware: Tortilla chips
Japanese
Skip: Shrimp tempura roll
Pick: Miso soup, a salmon-avocado roll and a cucumber roll
Better: Salmon sashimi
Beware: Spicy sauce
Diner brunch
Skip: French toast with syrup and sausage
Pick: Two eggs, fruit salad and an English muffin
Better: Egg whites or an egg substitute
Beware: Butter
Italian
Skip: Chicken parmesan
Pick: Minestrone and a half serving of spaghetti marinara
Better: Pasta primavera with red sauce
Beware: Garlic bread
Chinese
Skip: Kung pao chicken
Pick: Szechuan shrimp or shrimp and garlic sauce
Better: Steamed chicken and broccoli
Beware: Egg rolls
