Quiz: How many calories in that?
Saturday, December 6th, 2008
The Fitness magazine web site has a quiz up called “How Many Calories are You Really Consuming?” I did pretty poorly and found some of the explanations a bit alarming, including:
- a single portion of cheese is the size of your index finger (finally, my long fingers pay off!)
- most of us consume 458 calories a day from beverages, more than twice than we should (non-diet soda is the biggest single source of calories in the U.S. diet)
- a bagel is equal to five slices of bread, more than two-thirds of your daily recommended intake (of what, they don’t say)
- one oat-bran muffin has 454 calories and 12 grams of fat, worse than ham, egg and cheddar on an English muffin
Food for thought.
